ACTIVITIES TAKING PLACE THROUGHOUT FESTIVAL WEEKEND:  Pioneer Village, Antique tractor Display, Sidewalk sales, Craft Boothers, People Mover Rides, Tractor Barrel Train Rides, Decorated Duck Contest, Zucchini Contest, and Library Book Sale (10-5 on Friday & Saturday).  Make sure you watch for the schedule of events for speakers, displays, and activities that will take place “Under the Big Tent” throughout the festival.

Rules and Regulations for the Cars

Car Specifications:
Maximum overall length:  60 inches                     Overall Weight of Car:  75 lbs
Maximum wheelbase:  50 inches
Minimum wheel track width:  28 inches               Maximum wheel track width:  32 inches

Wheels:    Maximum wheel diameter is 12 inches      All wheels must have solid rubber tires
Wheels shall have plain sleeves or bushings only…. No ball bearings, roller bearings, needle bearings, etc will be allowed.  Race teams may be requested to remove wheels on race day so that the bushings may be inspected.  Axles must be fastened securely to axle support…Axles must be fixed and must not turn or rotate.

Each car must have a seat and braced backrest allowing the driver to sit upright with feet forward.

A safety belt must securely restrain driver and be securely attached to car frame.

The car frame must be constructed from quality 2x6 wood and the axle supports from quality 2x4 wood (or equivalent material and design to provide strength and safety for the drivers)  Car body can be made from wood, cardboard, or other suitable material. 

Steering will be done with the feet and/or with the hands holding a rope or mechanical steering device attached securely to the front axle support.

(OPTIONAL) Two 2x4 steering limiters (or equivalent) may be installed on the front axle support…The limiters may be fastened1/8 inch maximum from the frame to safely limit turning radius (straight line racing requires only minor steering correction).

An effective brake must be installed on the car, and must be easily operated while steering the car….Brakes that drag on the road surface shall be faced with rubber (old tire tread works great).

No modifications are allowed after the entry has been inspected…Modifications after inspection, including addition of weight will result in disqualification.

Seat belts and helmets are required (motorcycle, football, and bike helmets are okay).

No car may be driven by more than one driver and can only be entered in one division…

Gravity race only.   NO pushing off, no power or power drive assisted devices allowed….

Racers will race against other racers.  (Double elimination)   One or two trial runs will be allowed on race day before inspection so adjustments can be made.

Decisions of race officials are final.  Cars must be in the pit area by 2 p.m. on race day.  Please put a name on both sides of your car.

Catapult

Sunday, August 8th at 1:00 (during Swinging Bridge Festival)

Wanted:  Catapults and slingshots to throw weights of various sizes (up to 10 pounds) and shape.  Catapults and slingshots can be any size.  Participants can use weights, ropes, elastic bands, springs, or a combination of these items.

The contest will take place at the end of Maple Street, near the famous Swinging Bridge.

Awards for the longest distance!

Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival

BOOTH RULES & CONDITIONS

August 6th, 7th, & 8th

  1. The artist or craftsperson who designs the work and is a principal in the business MUST be present to show work.
  2. An application is a commitment to the show.  NO FULL REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN after the acceptance notice has been given, unless it is at least 30 days in advance of the event.
  3. A $35.00 returned check fee will be assessed on any check returned by the exhibitors bank for any reason.
  4. All art and craft items displayed MUST be for sale.
  5. The exhibitors booth must be open and staffed by an adult during the stated show times.
  6. All exhibits, goods, materials must be removed by 6 PM the last day of the show.  Failure to remove items may result in additional charges to the exhibitor.
  7. Exhibitor’s booths must not interfere with adjacent exhibits in any way.
  8. No loud music or broadcast or playing of recorded information during the craft show.
  9. Exhibitors are NOT to bring pets to the show.
  10. All exhibitors are to keep their own exhibit area neat and clean, including clean-up at the end of the show and removal of trash.  Waste receptacles will be available to deposit trash the day of the show.
  11. All exhibitors and their staff must exhibit professional behavior at all times during the show, no vulgar language, signage, etc. will be tolerated.  The Croswell Commercial Club reserves the right to determine what constitutes professional behavior and what items are deemed unacceptable.
  12. Exhibitors may not sublet or apportion space to anyone else.
  13. Insurance, if desired by the exhibitor, must be obtained by them at their own expense.
  14. Exhibitors will be responsible for delivery, handling, set-up, erection and removal of any and all display materials.  Awnings, tables, chairs, etc. must be provided by the exhibitor.
  15. Exhibit spaces shall be 10 feet by 10 feet.  Persons requiring spaces larger than that must rent and pay for two exhibit spaces.
  16. Loading of vehicles will not be permitted during scheduled events!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 2010

 

RULES AND DIVISIONS

Your cardboard boat can be displayed to the public on Friday, August 6, at 5 p.m. in the alley by Ben Franklin.  Call Kim Hartman (810-679-3904) to reserve a spot.

Race time:  Under 14 years old division starts at 1:00 p.m.

                    14 years old and older division starts at 3:00 p.m.

Note:  Additional divisions may be added after registration is completed.                        

There is no fees to enter this event
All boats and all aspects of the boat (except the paddles) must be made from cardboard.  Any kind of paint and tape can be used on the boats.
All boats need to have their name paint on both sides in letters 6 inches or bigger
No flotation devices can be used
Once races start boats may not be adjusted or reinforced
The area for passengers within the boat must not be enclosed.  Race officials have the final decision to have any boat altered for safety reasons before the boat is entered into a race
Boats will be powered by the passengers in the boat. 
All participants must provide and wear an approved life jacket and bring their own paddles
Boats that run into other boats on purpose will be immediately disqualified and removed from the race
All heats will have strict time limits enforced to keep the races moving along
Racers not available at the time of the official start of their race will have their boat disqualified

Awards:  First, Second, and Third Place Winners, Best Decorated Boats, Titanic Awards

2.  See who can toss the likeness the furthest from the center

     of the Swinging Bridge.

 

Rules:

  1. We know you wouldn’t consider this but just in case:  No cement blocks can be attached!  (we

have to pick up this precious cargo and we don’t want to have to bring in the dive team to do it!)

      2.  Points will be awarded based on:    

           A)  The likeness (so bring your lady or a picture).

           B)  Technique

           C)  Distance of throw

           D)  Overall “comic” factor (remember this is all in fun!)

 

Event will take place on Sunday, August 8th (during Swinging Bridge
Festival) right after the Rubber Duck Raffle which starts at 3:30.  Entries
must be submitted at the gazebo near the Swinging Bridge by 3:00.

Object: Timed: A Two man crew will need to Jack one side of the vehicle up, Rotate the tires on that side, lower the vehicle, move the Jack to the other side of the vehicle, Jack it up and Rotate the tires on that side, lower it down. Next they will have to Replace the Wiper Blades with a new set. Lastly they will have to open the hood and Replace the Air Filter Close the Hood and the clock stops. From there official Certified Mechanics from Franzel Auto will check over the work. Making sure everything is safe and correctly done! The Best Quality and Fastest time will Win this Competition.

Prizes to be Rewarded:

First Place: Possible Gift Certificate From Snap-on and/or Mac Tools/Napa?

Each also Receiving a Custom T-Shirt.

    “FLAT PAT THE TRAVELING DUCK”    

A SUMMER PROJECT FOR FAMILIES

Goal:  Try to get “Flat Pat the Traveling Duck” to visit as many places as possibly from 05/01/10 – 07/31/10. 

Project:  “Flat Pat the Traveling Duck’s” visits must be dated and logged in a journal (notebook) and accompanied by photos of him visiting various locations.  Photos may be arranged on a posterboard accompanied by the journal or pictures could be in an album with journal information included next to the picture.  Journal information should include dates, how Flat Pat ended up at the location, and who accompanied Flat Pat on the trip.  Flat Pat’s Adventures will be displayed during the Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival (August 6-8).

Reward:   Winner will be announced during Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival and winner will receive 4 half-day passes to Zehnder’s Splash Village in Frankenmuth.  Runner-Up prizes will also be available. 

Judging:  Points will be received based on number of places Flat Pat visited, the number of “hosts” (who he stayed with), distance traveled (bonuses will be awarded for out of state and out of country visits), quality of journal, and presentation.  You can also score extra points if Flat Pat is photographed with a celebrity, if he shows up in a newspaper (copy must be included), brings back a free souvenir from his trip, etc.  You can also gain points by having your Flat Pat “visit” the Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival’s Facebook page.

Who is “Flat Pat”?  Flat Pat is this year’s spokesperson for the Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival.  His goal is to go out and encourage everyone to visit Croswell’s famous Swinging Bridge and enjoy the Festival (August 6-8).

Where do I get my “Flat Pat”?:  Flat Pat the Traveling Duck will be available at Frostick School, City of Croswell office, Eastern Michigan Bank’s main office, or Aitken Memorial Library beginning May 1, 2010. 

Who can adopt a Flat Pat?  Flat Pat can be adopted by a family with “family” being defined as one member being under the age of 18 and one adult age 18 or over.  At least one member of the “family” must live in Croswell OR work in Croswell OR attend Cros-Lex Schools.  A listing of those involved must be included with the journal.

What do I do with Flat Pat?  You must include your name and address on the back and you can decorate the front however you want.  You can mail him or take him wherever you want.  Just be sure to include a cover letter explaining what you are doing and why they need to return him to you promptly along with a picture of him on his adventure.   You should also include the dates for this year’s Swinging Bridge Festival (August 6-8).  Projects can be dropped off at the City of Croswell or the Library between August 1st & August 4th.

Decorated Duck Contest

(takes place during Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival – August 6-8)

RULES/GUIDELINES:

  1. This year’s theme is “Small Town USA”.
  2. Going with tradition, each entry must be in the shape of a duck OR a duck must at least be visible on the entry.
  3. Entries must fit in holders we have used in the past so a good “form” to start out with would be luan.
  4. Each entry limited to 4’ x 4’.
  5. Blank forms or duck shapes can be purchased for $10.
  6. Duck “holders” will be provided.
  7. Entries must be presented by 9:00 AM on Friday, August 6thTHIS IS A GREAT FORM OFADVERTISING SO FEEL FREE TO DISPLAY YOUR DUCK AT YOUR BUSINESS ANYTIME AFTER JULY 25TH!!!  If you want, we can find a place to display it for you.
  8. Entries will be voted on during the festival and winner will receive the traveling trophy for the year.
