2010 CROSWELL SWINGING BRIDGE LOGO CONTEST

Visitors to last year’s Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival were asked to vote on a theme for 2010.  The majority of the voters wanted to keep the theme similar to last year’s theme which was “A Salute to Agriculture”.  Many of the voters commented on this being an appropriate theme for our community given our strong ties to agriculture.  You may recall that last year we had pins and t-shirts printed up with a logo designed by Terry Helmold that was also used on our brochures.  It featured a tractor, the swinging bridge, a duck, and a cardboard boat.

The Festival Committee has decided to offer a logo and design contest for the 2010 festival.  The winning entry will receive a $50 gift certificate from a Croswell area business of their choosing and their design will be featured as our 2010 logo.  If the entry is easily suitable, we will also use that same design for the t-shirts and pins that we plan to do.  For this reason, we would prefer that entries are bright, crisp, and preferably submitted electronically so we can reduce or increase the size more easily.  Each entry should include “Croswell Swinging Bridge Festival”, the year, and reflect our community and festival.

Entries can be submitted to:  biscuit@greatlakes.net or dropped off at the City of Croswell office, attention:  Croswell Commercial Club.  Questions can be referred to Karen Biskey at (810) 679-2742.  Entry deadline is March 1, 2010.

CROSWELL SWINGING BRIDGE FESTIVAL

Hello to our business friends!

On behalf of the Swinging Bridge Festival Committee, we would like to request your consideration for sponsorship/advertising for the 2010 Festival which will take place on AUGUST 6th, 7th,  & 8th.  Once again we will bring back the favorites such as the cardboard boat races, car cruise, parade, car show, children’s activities, rubber ducky drop raffle, Zucchini 500 races, live entertainment, and of course the return of the awesome fireworks display.

The committee was very pleased that several new volunteers have come forward to offer help and ideas for new events.  Although the warm days of August seem a long way off, the festival committee needs to make commitments and deposits for entertainment and events in the near future.  We are asking for your consideration at one of our sponsorship levels shown on the following page and we can bill you later in the year if you prefer.  We have also outlined the value each dollar of your advertising budget will get for you.

Unable to provide monetary support?  The festival committee would gladly accept donations of services or time such as printing, copying, sharing a talent, providing man-power for one of the events, an item for the Rubber Duck Drop Raffle, etc.  The Committee would also like to encourage your business’s participation by building a boat for the cardboard boat races, a float for the parade, or decorating a duck or form (check box on following page).

Last year we asked our visitors to vote on a theme for this year and the majority voted to keep the festival’s theme geared toward our small community with its roots in agriculture.  We are discussing having a contest this year to come up with a theme and logo for the festival and we plan to keep many agricultural activities again this year.

The committee is also very aware that the economy has not yet returned to comfortable levels and we will continue to use our funding wisely.  We also feel that in these uncertain times, it is especially important to increase our efforts in order to provide a weekend filled with fun, free activities.  Our goal is to encourage a strong sense of “community” and allow all our neighbors to come visit our community.  Our event this year will coincide with the Lexington Art Fair and we are going to advertise strongly in that area with hopes of drawing people into our community while they are in the area.

Again, thank you for your past support, your time, and consideration.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to call Karen Biskey at (810) 679-2742.

Sincerely,
Karen Biskey
Festival Chairman

DECORATED ENTRY CONTEST

We will once again be doing the Decorated Entry Contest and would appreciate hearing from those who plan to participate this year.  This year we will let you know the shape once we have determined a Logo contest winner.  We are hoping to have a theme that reflects our community.  The forms must still fit in our bases and must start out with a shape cut out of a ½ sheet of luan (about the same size as the ducks we have used in the past).  We have a “traveling” trophy for our winners and it currently resides at Westbrook Hardware (last year’s winner) until a new winner is determined at this year’s festival.
